The Catoosa County Historical Society is an organization dedicated to collecting, preserving, researching, and interpreting Catoosa County historical information and artifacts as well as preserving Catoosa County architecture. We strive to provide historical education of our history through visits to our museum and our monthly meetings featuring historical topics of interest.
Our mission includes maintaining:
• A museum with collections of local historic artifacts
• A library of Catoosa County individual and family histories
• A library of reference books and publications on Catoosa County and area history
Catoosa County Historical Society and our partners:
City of Ringgold, Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park, and Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History
as we present a program on one of the key events in Catoosa County history.
Topics to be covered:
·Concept, construction and initial operation of the Western & Atlantic Railroad
·The military operation known historically as the "Andrews Raid” and with the popular name of “The Great Locomotive Chase”
·Events and people of the 1862 raid following the capture of the General, north of Ringgold.
Special Children’s Program – The Disney movie “the Great Locomotive Chase” will be shown in a separate room at the Depot at 1:30PM.
The doors to the Historic Ringgold Depot will open at 1:00PM and the program will begin promptly at 1:30PM and end at 4:15PM.
This event is presented with no charge for participation.
